We will start off with some good news. Today is Nadeam's 40th birthday.

When I get home, it had a small pool table. We're trying to evaluate the cost of it. I'll have to give it back or buy it from them or something.

In any event, thank you all for changing your schedules to be here this afternoon.

This is an important week for us. You see two things happening: one on the Senate floor, where the Senate Democrats have pushed forth on legislation to show clearly the distinction between Democrats and Republicans when it comes to protecting the American people.

We have seen reckless behavior on Wall Street that has created joblessness on Main Street. And so our initiative has replica hublot watches been to pass reform legislation to change that. The Republicans want to protect Wall Street; we want to protect Main Street. Now you see the voices of the American people are being heard, as the Republicans are being dragged into - to allow the debate to take place.

We began health care reform with a big savings of $1.3 trillion for the American people. And, in a smaller way, but important to us, we Members have rejected a cost of living increase. As our country tightens their belts, its families tighten their belts, Congress, so, too, do we.

So we are really very pleased about some of the pieces of legislation to end waste, fraud, and abuse in the conduct of the business, whether it is duplication, obsolescence, whatever it is, end it, as well as reforming the acquisition.

Back to the difference between Democrats and Republicans, we have seen this over and over. We want to protect Main Street; they want to protect Wall Street. We wanted to regulate the insurance company, reign in the health insurance companies; they did not. We are fighting for legislation for climate change and clean energy jobs for the future, reigning in big oil; they are here to protect big oil. Again, nothing points out the difference more, though, than this Wall Street reform because this recklessness on Wall Street has lost our economy 8 million jobs. Repaying the support - 12:25 PM, 7.5.2010

Sarah Himan was in the Radford University library when her younger brother gave her the bad news on the phone.

Their eldest brother, Josh, had been wounded in Afghanistan.

Josh, whose love of sports led to Sarah becoming an athlete.

Josh, who had so enjoyed his years at RU that she decided to accept a softball scholarship from the university.

She ran out of the library that September night, packed a bag and drove home to Woodbridge in Northern Virginia to be with her family.

A lance corporal in the Marines, Josh suffered damage to his spinal cord when his Humvee hit an improvised explosive devise. He has quadriplegia, paralyzed from the chest down.

Sarah has made many trips from Radford to visit her hospitalized brother. She and the rest of the family celebrated Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's and Easter with Josh at the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond.

Wednesday night, it was Josh who visited Sarah.

It was the final home game of her college career, and Josh made his first overnight trip from the hospital so he could join the rest of the family at the ballpark.

Before the game, two Roanoke-based Marines presented him with a ball that was autographed by the Highlanders. The spectators gave him a standing ovation, with the Highlanders and the opposing players from Virginia Tech applauding as well.

Josh cheered on his sister during the game.

But the Purple Heart recipient has a fan of his own.

"Before my brother joined the military, I didn't even ... know the extent of the things that they sacrifice for Joe Schmoes that live down the road that don't really care," Sarah said in an interview earlier in the week.

"I'm so proud of him. Our family's going to support him from here to the end."

'A great foundation'

Sarah has two older brothers, Josh, 25, and Jake, 24.

When she was a child, she played sports because she wanted to be like them. She even played Little League baseball, just like them, before becoming a softball standout.

She is a four-year starter at catcher for the Highlanders, who are in first place in the Big South Conference. She made the All- Big South first team the past two seasons, and is batting .409 this year. She has been so hot of late that she was named the Big South player of the week on Monday.

"I always knew that she was going to be good," Josh said in a phone interview earlier this week.

Josh, who graduated from Radford in 2006, entered the Marines in January 2008.

"Knowing people who had served, I wanted to do my time, too," he said.

Josh was in the stands last May to cheer for Sarah when the Highlanders won the Big South tournament to claim the first NCAA tournament berth in their history.

A week later, he was deployed overseas.

Sarah said she "still can't believe" he was wounded.

On Sept. 29, in Afghanistan's Helmut province, Josh -- just weeks away from the end of his tour -- was in the back seat of the Humvee when it struck the IED and flipped over in the blast.

He said: "We have defended well, but all the team deserves credit - it's not just about me, Jose, Tayls and Danny.

"It's not just about any one player." CARMARTHEN Quins made hard work of overcoming bottom club Pontypool but were worthy winners of a Principality Premiership game full of determination and effort but short on skill.

The Quins could hardly have started better. Gareth Cull kicked a fourth-minute penalty and another two minutes later when Richard Aylett was yellow-carded for offside.

While Pontypool were down to 14 men, the Quins struck again when Cull made ground before finding Andrew Thomas.

From the ruck, Richard Wilkes burst clean through and sent a perfect pass to the supporting Gavin Evans who raced over for a try which Cull converted.

The Quins were in charge at the scrums but the line-outs were fairly even with the return of Martin Morgan a big Clip on charms plus.

Slicing Pooler dug in as the half progressed and hit back when substitute Leighton Bellamore ran back a Quins kick and sent Steve Taylor slicing through the defence. He found Dan Connolly who put Tom Hancock over wide out.

SINCE he burst onto the big screen as the indecipherable, scene- stealing gangster, Fred Fenster, in The Usual Suspects, Puerto Rican actor, Benicio Del Toro, has proven to be a cinematic force.

Dark, edgy, and brooding on screen, he's also developed a reputation for being difficult in interviews, only last year walking out on The Washington Times while discussing his starring role in Che.

Yet his rebellious nature is all part of his appeal. Having unapologetically carved out a career on his own terms, he's the man most men want to be and most women wouldn't mind a flirtation with.

We're here to talk about his latest movie, a gothic horror called The Wolfman, based on the 1941 classic of the same name. It Clip on charms tells the tale of a haunted nobleman by the name of Lawrence Talbot, played by Del Toro, who's lured back to his family estate to discover the truth behind his brother's disappearance. One night, Talbot is bitten by a beast and from that moment, whenever the moon is full, the monster within is unleashed as he transforms into a terrifying wolf-like figure.

"I'm a fan of movies. All kinds of movies," he says in an American accent flecked with Spanish, although his mouth hardly moves.

"See, my earliest recollection as a child watching movies were all those classic, universal horror movies, like Frankenstein with Boris Karloff, Bride Of Frankenstein with Elsa Lanchester and Lon Chaney Sr and Lon Chaney Jr movies.

"I knew these movies when I was a kid and then I ended up doing movies."

Movies were never in Del Toro's master plan. At the age of nine, his mother died of hepatitis and the young Del Toro reacted by rebelling against everything he knew, particularly his father, a lawyer called Gustavo.

Considered troublesome, he was shipped off to a boarding school in Pennsylvania when he was 13 years old. Five years later, after enrolling on a business degree at the University of California, he joined a college acting class and was instantly hooked.

It wasn't long before he was learning the craft under the eagle- eye of Stella Adler, the legendary Method-acting tutor who taught the likes of Marlon Brando. And much like Brando, Del Toro is known for his meticulous preparation when embarking on a role.

His approach may not be to everyone's taste but his undeniable talent secured him an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 2001 for his role as a righteous Mexican policeman in Traffic and three years later another nomination for 21 Grams.

For his role in The Wolfman, the transformation into a werewolf was particularly painstaking, involving hours in the make-up trailer where prosthetics, fangs and fur were applied.

Although he admits he was "very proud" of himself in the make- up, when asked if he enjoyed the process, he shrugs his shoulders and simply says, "initially" before contemplating the question for a moment.

"I enjoyed putting on the make-up because it's happening and you see something growing and at the end it's the flower," he said.

The release of the movie marks the end of a long journey that began, according to Del Toro's friend and producer, Rick Yorn, when the two of them were walking in Hollywood.

HULL KR coach Justin Morgan believes his "special group of players" deserve credit for overcoming 10 and eight-point deficits to beat Castleford 24-20.

Asked if the win was all about his side's character, Morgan said: "I agree 100 per cent.

Striders of Croydon did well to have four runners in the top 40 of the men's race at Surrey Cross Country Championships in Lloyd Park on Saturday.

Their best performance came from Matt Morgan who ran well to place 23rd, covering the muddy 12-kilometre course in 44 minutes 33 seconds. Justin Macenhill was 27th (45:23), Steve Starvis 36th (46:16), Lee Flanagan 38th (46:30), Barry White 75th (51:59) and Graham Williams 105th (65:57), giving Striders seventh place in the team event.

Striders' women were led by Alice Ewen who placed 44th, ghd iv styler covering the 8km course in 39:46. Linda Daniel was 62nd (45:01) and Lisa Jackson 68th (59:01).

Striders had an impressive total of 35 finishers in the Sussex Beacon Half Marathon in Brighton the following day, seven of whom completed the course in under 90 minutes.

Simon Ambrosi placed 99th in 1hr 24mins 37secs, Richard Lee- Smith was 167th (1:26:35) and was followed by Ben Fancourt (1:27:24), Paul Finch (1:28:39), Matt Chapman (1:28:47), Chris Morton (1:29:09) and Ian Yates (1:29:56).

Striders' women were led by Suzy Yates who ran 1:34:37, and five more finished in under two Fake Baume & Mercier hours: Josephine Thompson (1:44:34); Lesley Bourke (1:50:30), Serena Stracey (1:51:26), Sarah Hansbury (1:54:07) and Amanda Barros (1:56:38).

Striders also had five runners in the Roundshaw Downs Park Run last Saturday. Alan Dolton placed fifth, covering the 5km course in 21mins 42secs. Nick Eaves was ninth (22:46) with Chris Smith 23rd (26:07), Martin Gourlay 24th (26:19) and Kim Ford 35th (29:43).

Morgan helps Green Mountain up - 11:34 PM, 12.4.2010

BANGOR - Husson University averaged 92 points in its two regular- season victories over Green Mountain College.

Just last Friday, Husson cruised to a 30-point win over the Eagles of Poultney, Vt.

Tuesday night, with the season on the line, Green Mountain was able to contain that same Husson ballclub.

Junior guard Trent Morgan scored 15 of his team-high 20 points in the second half, helping No. 5 Green Mountain claim a 72-68 North Atlantic Conference men's quarterfinal basketball victory over No. 4 Husson at Newman Gym.

Morgan, who returned to basketball in January and hadn't played in two years after leaving Division I Kent State, had six points during a key 10-0 surge that helped Green Mountain (9-16) earn a berth in Friday's 6 p.m. semifinal against top seed and host University of Maine-Farmington.

"Playoffs, anything can happen any given night," said Morgan, whose poised play at the point kept Green Mountain in synch throughout.

"We bounced back," he added. "They beat us by 30 on Friday. We just had to take a few steps back, see what we did wrong and try to critique ourselves and then just come in the ballgame and play as tough as we can."

Coach Todd Montana's team avenged two lopsided losses to Husson, including an 86-66 setback Jan. 23 in Vermont. This time, Green Mountain controlled the tempo better.

"We wanted to make sure we made three, four, five passes, tried to make them work defensively," said Montana, who used only six of his eight players, including four who played the full 40 minutes.

"By now I think we're conditioned to be able to handle it," he added.

Green Mountain contained Husson mainstays Brock Bradford and Matt MacKenzie, who combined for only 11 points.

"We were determined that as many good players as they have, we were going to make somebody different [than MacKenzie] beat us this time," said Montana, whose team double- and triple-teamed the rugged forward in the post.

Husson (15-11) never seemed to get into a good offensive flow. The hosts appeared to be in control, leading 56-48 with 8:22 remaining.

However, coach Warren Caruso's team committed four turnovers to fuel GMC's 10-0 run and never fully recovered.

"We could have stretched the lead out to 10, 12 [points] and we didn't do our job," Caruso said. "We let them hang around and get a little momentum going down the stretch."

Husson last led 63-60 on Jay Uhrin's three-point play with 3:28 left, but GMC scored six unanswered points in a span of 1:14 to regain the lead. Rui Carmo (19 points, 17 rebounds, 4 steals) scored from the paint, Gerard Johnson (12 points, 15 rebounds) had a tip- in of a Carmo miss and Morgan hit an 18-footer to make it 66-63.

"Morgan was the difference in the game," Caruso said. "He controlled the game off the dribble and got to the foul line in the critical situations."

Husson tied it on a free throw and a short runner by Winterport's Uhrin (15 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists), but Eddie Asieduo hit a 3- pointer with 39.2 seconds left to put the pressure back on the hosts.

"I'm happy as heck for him that he was able to step up and make that play," Montana said.

Police still hunting prisoners - 11:04 PM, 29.3.2010

Mark Bown failed to return to Sudbury prison from temporary leave on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old was sentenced to eight years for robbery at Nottingham Crown Court in 2008.

He is white, 5ft 11ins, with a stocky build, short brown hair, brown eyes, and a northern accent. His home address was in Whitefield, Bury.

Convicted robber Anthony David Hoy, also known as Anthony Houghton, absconded from Sudbury on January 28.

Police swoop on car after fire - 11:03 PM, 29.3.2010

RESIDENTS were shocked to see armed police swooping on their street in Lawrence Weston.

Avon and Somerset police carried out a "tactical stop" on a car in Kings Weston Avenue after information came from local people about a man allegedly having a gun.

An eyewitness, who did not want to be named, said at about 6.15pm on Saturday, officers descended on the silver vehicle and forced the occupants out at gunpoint.

Five police BMWs - three estate cars and two unmarked X5s - blocked it in between the junctions with The Bean Acre and Merrimans Road and three men were arrested.

Police swoop on immigrants - 11:03 PM, 29.3.2010

MALDON: An immigration sting operation at two car washes resulted in three arrests following intelligence-led investigations.

Officers from the UK Border Agency and Essex Police swooped on premises on opposite sides of The Causeway at the end of last month.

At the Gaxha Hand Car Wash, three men were from Albania and two were arrested.

On the other site police assisted four workers pandora beads to gather documents from their home address when they arrived at the property in The Square, Heybridge. Six other people were found living in squalid conditions.

At one flat, one man was arrested for a criminal offence and for being in possession of a forged driving licence.

MOBSTERS PLOT TO KIDNAP MOURIN - 10:24 PM, 18.3.2010

A MOBSTER plot to rob and possibly kidnap former Chelsea FC boss Jose Mourinho was foiled yesterday.

Police said four men believed to have connections to the Italian mafia were captured after an undercover operation.

Detectives seized photographs and video footage, revealing that the outspoken Inter Milan manager - known as the Special One - had been spied on for months.

Police say the images show 47-year-old Mourinho, his wife and the couple's two children at the family home on Lake Como in northern Italy.

There was also footage of the manager at the team's training ground.

Police said the Portuguese coach, who won two Premiership titles with Chelsea before leaving the club in 2007, had been followed by crooks specialising in robbing celebrities.

Major Vito Di Gioia, of the Genoa paramilitary Carabinieri, which led the investigation, said: "The gang would follow expensive cars, identify the owners through the number plates, get the addresses and stake out their properties to work out their routines and replica rolex plan when to strike."

There were also unconfirmed reports that it was a plot to kidnap Mourinho.

The four Macedonians being held were named as Nikollovska Mirjana, 46, of Genoa, and Bruno Bentivoglio, 44, Zoran Bentivoglio, 20, and 30-year-old Luca Radosavljevic, all of Milan.

A day off Thursday seemed to work for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's basketball team.

Players seemed in good spirits Friday while texting, joking and goofing off a little before their daily meeting in replica breitling McKenzie Arena. Even coach John Shulman appeared refreshed, considering the circumstances.

"We got our minds clear and had time to think about what we need to do to have success," sophomore guard Ricky Taylor said. "When we were on our six-game win streak we were playing hard, we were attentive, alert, physical, active on defense and communicating.

"It's easy to solve. We have to do it."

A Southern Conference home victory Saturday night over Furman (11-13, 5-8) would cure the symptoms and end a three-game losing streak for the Mocs.

"It's a test and we failed that test Wednesday," Shulman said about UTC's 78-54 home loss to Samford. "I'm not going to tell you we passed the test because we beat Western Carolina and App (in the last home stand). We passed the test because we battled.

"We failed the test Wednesday -- not that we got beat, but how we played."

The Mocs' season is still poisoned after they dropped to 13-13 overall and 5-8 in the conference.

"We have to get back to work and have the attitude that the season is not over," point guard Keegan Bell said. "We had a rough stretch, and the way to get back to work is to do the small things."

The Mocs need a win now more than ever this season, considering it's mid-February. But they absolutely needed a win before and came through.

"We had that Richmond, Missouri, (Texas) Pan-American stretch and desperately needed to a win in that last game and we pulled our season back together," Bell said of the Mocs' defeat of Longwood in Texas. "That's what we have to do here. We've been through all this before and we know how to get ourselves out of it, and that's what we have to do."

Five of Furman's top seven players are juniors or seniors, including South Florida transfer Amu Saaka, who averages nearly 16 points per game.

"He's a tough matchup," Shulman said. "He's big; he puts it on the floor; he shoots 3s; he posts up. He's a good player. They were young a couple years ago and they were waiting for this year."

A good start, jumping out to a lead, would aid the Mocs tonight.

"I wouldn't count on one," Shulman admitted. "You have to earn it."

Josh Odem and Ridge McKeither, whom Shulman suspended from games indefinitely before Wednesday's loss, still will be in street clothes tonight. They are UTC's third and fourth leading scorers.

"I was disappointed because they're a valuable asset to this team and both helped us tremendously," Taylor said. "Wow, how do we move on from this? Are others going to step up?"

King signals interest rates to - 11:32 PM, 15.3.2010

BANK of England Governor Mervyn King last night signalled benchmark UK interest rates could remain at a record low for some time yet by playing down the revelation of a spike in inflation in December.

King, meanwhile, hammered home the danger which huge global trade imbalances posed to financial markets and the world economy, and highlighted the need for exchange rate reform in countries with massive surpluses such as China.

The Office for National Statistics said yesterday that benchmark annual UK consumer prices index inflation leapt from 1.9% in November to 2.9% last month.

This was the biggest leap in this annual inflation rate in any month since comparable records began Movado Replica in January 1997, and the reading for December was significantly above the City's forecast of 2.6%.

Signalling he was unperturbed about the jump in inflation in December, King said: "Provided monetary growth remains well under control - and remember that at present it is undesirably low - inflation should return to target in the medium term.

"I hope you will all remember that in both of the past two years inflation picked up as a result of temporary price level factors and then fell back, as the MPC (Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of England) had predicted."

King, highlighting the "high cost" of the global banking crisis, noted that the fall of about 5% in UK economic output in 2009 was the steepest suffered in any year since 1931, and the country's national income was about 10% below the level it would have reached without the financial crisis

He cautioned that there was a "long period of healing ahead".

And he added: "The sharp monetary squeeze resulting from the efforts by banks to contract their balance sheets is still casting a shadow over the future path of output and employment."

King declared that the Bank of England's move to boost UK money supply by pound(s)200bn, through the purchase of government and corporate debt, had "averted a potentially disastrous monetary squeeze".

The leap in the annual inflation rate last month reflected in large part the fact that the emergency reduction in the rate of UK value-added tax, from 17.5% to 15%, took effect in December 2008.

This emergency reduction was reversed this month.

King acknowledged this reversal was likely to see inflation surge above 3%, and possibly "even higher", in the short term.

King would have to write an explanatory letter to the Chancellor of the Exchequer if it went above 3% - given this would be more than one percentage point above the 2% target set by the Government.

However, while sterling firmed yesterday on the much higher-than- expected inflation numbers, King appeared at pains to play down the implications of the latest data for UK monetary policy.

UK base rates have been at 0.5% since March last year. This is the lowest since the Bank of England was created in 1694.

King, who was speaking at the University of Exeter, said: "It is clear that inflation is likely to pick up markedly in the first half of this year, a message reinforced by this morning's news that CPI inflation reached 2.9% in December.
