Tickets for WWDC Designer iPhone 4 Cases 2012 Now On Sale: June 11-15
With only a little over six weeks of lead time, Apple today officially announced that it will hold its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (Designer iPhone 4 Cases) from June 11-15 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Conference passes are on sale now for $1599, and come with a new restriction requiring that purchasers be members of one of the company's developer programs.
Tickets are expected to sell out quickly given past years' trends. Last year, the conference sold out in under twelve hours.
“We have a great WWDC Designer iPhone 4 Cases planned this year and can’t wait to share the latest news about iOS and OS X Mountain Lion with developers,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “The iOS platform has created an entirely new industry with fantastic opportunities for developers across the country and around the world.”
Apple notes that it will hold over 100 technical sessions for developers, with over 1,000 Apple engineers on hand to provide support for attendees.
This year's conference again appears to be focused on both OS X and Designer iPhone 4 Cases developers equally, with OS X Mountain Lion set for public release later this summer and iOS 6 likely ready to enter developer testing at the conference ahead of an iPhone hardware update later in the year.
The June 11-15 dates for WWDC 2012 are not particularly surprising, given that a generic "Corporate Meeting" event typical of Apple's WWDC listing appeared on the Moscone Center's calendar last year, and the timeframe also appeared as long ago as April 2010 in a tentative convention calendar listing WWDC dates through 2015. Nevertheless, developers able to secure passes to the conference will need to move quickly to obtain travel arrangements and may encounter high prices, as the U.S. Open golf championship is being held in San Francisco during the same week. |

New prototype AppleTV visits ISPs up north, can be controlled only by voice or hand gestures
|
Canada’s largest newspaper, the Globe and Mail, today said Apple has been working with wireless and wireline providers including Rogers and Bell to partner with the AppleTV.Designer iPhone 4 Cases|Designer iPhone 4S Cases|Designer iPhone 4 Case|Designer iPhone 4S Case
“They’re not closed to doing it with one [company] or doing it with two,” said one source who is familiar with the talks. “They’re looking for a partner. They’re looking for someone with wireless and broadband capabilities.” Another source, also speaking on the condition of anonymity, said Rogers and Bell already have the product in their labs.
More interestingly, some details of this new AppleTV are provided:Louis Vuitton iPhone 4 Cases|Louis Vuitton iPhone 4S Cases|Louis Vuitton iPhone 4 Case|Louis Vuitton iPhone 4S Case
The product reportedly integrates Siri, Apple’s voice-recognition software that acts as a personal assistant on the latest iPhone, into television sets to help viewers make programming choices.
Viewers can then control the TV by voice or hand gestures, all from the comfort of a couch. An on-screen keyboard, meanwhile, can also be activated in a similar manner, allowing viewers to surf the web, conduct video chats and use social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook – all without any physical interface.
The Globe and Mail goes on to quote analysts including Jefferies & Co. analyst Peter Misek that we discussed earlier who also said Apple was collaborating with ISPs to deliver TV content to a next generation AppleTV. Perhaps the biggest proponent of an AppleTV outside of Cupertino, Gene Munster, gave his latest assessment of the situation last week, calling for one of three scenarioshappening before the end of the year.

Apple in early discussions to open stores inside of Sam’s Club locations
|

Apple Store inside of a Best Buy
Apple and Walmart subsidiary Sam’s Club are in early discussions to widen their already existing partnership. Sam’s Club currently sells Apple’s iPhone, iPad, and iPod lines within its large retail chain, but the two corporate giants are looking to take their business relationship to the next level. According to sources, Apple is considering an expansion of its Apple Store-in-store program to the 47 United States retail warehouse chain locations.Louis Vuitton iPhone 4 Cases|Louis Vuitton iPhone 4S Cases
Sources said Apple is looking to expand its program beyond Best Buy and Target in the United States, and Sam’s Club is one of the retail chains that Apple is in early discussions with. An Apple-store-in-store typically consists of a mini-Apple Store type setup within a larger store. For example, the store-in-stores in Best Buy consist of Apple-like displays and a large table with all of Apple’s products as typically seen in standalone Apple Stores.Chanel iPhone 4 Cases|Chanel iPhone 4S Cases|Chanel iPhone 4 Case|Chanel iPhone 4S Case
Sam’s Club and Apple are not only in early discussions for the Apple store-in-store program, but a backup plan is also being discussed. This plan consists of Sam’s Club simply selling Apple’s Macs, but without the Apple Store features. Since the discussions are still early, sources could not comment on a timeframe for such partnerships, but we know the store-in-stores will likely not be coming soon—or at all if the discussions fall flat. While Sam’s Club is said to be considered, it is unknown if its parent company Walmart is, too.

Vice President of iPhone and iPod Engineering David Tupman left Apple at the end of last year
|
Last year Apple saw the loss of many executives ranging from its OS X chief, iAd chief, andGlobal Security chief, and 2012 has started off with another leave: the departure Vice President David Tupman. Tupman has been Apple’s Vice President of iPhone and iPod engineering for over a decade, making him a vital component of Apple’s leadership team.
Tupman grew up in the United Kingdom and attended Salford University. While there, Tupman earned a degree in the engineering electronics. Tupman put the degree to good use as a lead engineer at Schlumberger, an oilfield services provider, for seven years. Tupman then spent around six years at Psion, working through the ranks until becoming a top manager in the hardware division. By this time, Apple’s engineering prodigy Tony Fadell was working full steam on the iPod, a product that would lead Apple into creating the wildly popular iPhone, iPod touch, and most recently, the iPad. Weeks before the introduction of the first iPod, Apple hired Tupman, and he soon became Apple’s vice president of iPod engineering.Louis Vuitton iPhone 4 Case|Louis Vuitton iPhone 4S Case
He had a big hand in the development and success of every iPod released to date, and when it was time to build the iPhone, Tupman joined the team behind that product, too. As Apple shifted its engineering resources to its mobile line of products, Tupman was named Vice President of iPod and iPhone Engineering— a major role at Apple. Besides playing a major part in growing Apple’s mobile device business into one of the most successful businesses ever, Tupman has his name on at around 70 Apple technology patents, such as power and battery life management, noise-canceling ear buds, Apple’s tiny iPhone power adapters, and mobile device interaction with accessories.
According to our sources, Tupman left Apple at the end of last year. This would seem to be a significant blow to the company whose mobile devices helped lead Apple to a $46 billion holiday quarter. Sources also said that a successor is yet to be named, but Apple is actively pursuing a replacement from inside the company….Gucci iPhone 4 cases|Gucci iPhone 4S cases|Gucci iPhone 4 case|Gucci iPhone 4S case
To confirm, we called his number at Apple and it was deactivated. We asked an operator to confirm that his name had been removed from the directory. It had. We also talked to another source at a hot Valley startup who also confirmed his departure.
Tupman reported to Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Bob Mansfield, and his direct colleague vice presidents include Apple’s Vice President of iPad Dan Riccio, and Apple’s Vice President of iPhone and iPod Design Steve Zadesky.

From Fortune’s Apple org chart
Zadesky has engineering degrees from Stanford University and UC Berkeley and he has overseen mechanical engineering for several iterations of the iPod and iPhone, making him a perfect temporary or full replacement for Tupman. In this case, Zadesky would merge the two roles, a similar situation to Tim Cook taking over Steve Jobs’ CEO responsibilities and retaining many of his COO responsibilities, according to sources familiar with the matter.
However, Apple’s Director of iPod and iPhone Engineering Vic Alessi may make an even better replacement, as he worked for Tupman directly on iPhone and iPod engineering, sources said. Tupman, being an important mobile device executive, surely has an open spot at any Silicon Valley corporation.
Sources could not comment on Tupman’s plans for the future but we have seen some interesting connections being made recently with two of his former colleagues at Nest joining his social networking circles in recent weeks. Nest PR, though, said he is not working for the thermostat company.

WSJ: Motorola wants 2.25-percent of iPhone sales, representing over $1B in 2011
|
Following a brief injunction in the Motorola patent case forcing Apple to remove products from its German online store, a judge shortly after suspended the injunction and Apple claimed it would appeal the court’s original decision “because Motorola repeatedly refuses to license this patent to Apple on reasonable terms.” So, what were the terms of Motorola’s license agreement that Apple considered unreasonable?Louis Vuitton iPhone 4 Cases|Louis Vuitton iPhone 4S CasesFoss Patents reported earlier that court documents revealed Motorola was requesting an approximate 2.25-percent royalty from Apple, and today The Wall Street Journal confirmed the number, which would represent over $1 billion in iPhone sales during 2011. The proof comes from a letter dated Oct.17 and filed with a California court, although it does not list specific devices that would be affected. WSJ reported lawyers see the high royalty request as a way to “force a settlement or disrupt business,” and Foss Patents said Motorola likely wants Apple to deny the request so it can seek injunctions. In comparison, Microsoft is now collecting an approximate $5 royalty on over 70 percent of all Android smartphones sold in the United States, accounting for 2 percent of a $250 device. Likewise, Oracle is after $1B from Google over Java patents.Burberry iPhone 4 Cases|Burberry iPhone 4S Cases|Hermes iPhone 4 Cases|Hermes iPhone 4S Cases

Intel’s new 520 Series SSD benchmarked: Easy on the battery, great data protection and compression features
|
Intel announced today the new 520 Series solid-state storage code-named “Cherryville” and a number of tech websites and blogs already have their reviews up. The Verge has a nice review round up, and MacWorld’s own review provides an extensive overview of the pros and cons of the device. Fabbed on Intel’s 25nm Multi-Level Cell process, the 520 boasts sequential read/write performance of 550/520MBps when using a system with a SATA 3.0 6Gbps interface. The spec sheet positions the 520 Series as a solution for media creators and tech enthusiasts.Louis Vuitton iPhone 4 Case|Louis Vuitton iPhone 4S Case
Still, Samsung’s comparable 830 Series came in fastest during Tech Report’s review (see the chart below the fold), with sequential read/write speeds of 500/350MBps on a SATA 3.0 6Gbps interface. We reviewed the Samsung 830 and found it to be the fastest available. In addition, the 830 SSD is almost $150 cheaper and it is going into MacBook Airs soon, unlike the 520 Series that comes in a 2.5-inch form factor—so it only fits inside MacBook and MacBook Pros.
MacWorld’s review achieved read-writes of 303/324MBps (sequential) and 303/338MBps (random) with Xbench 1.3 and 456/241MBps in read/writes using Blackmagic benchmarking software with 4K blocks. The 520 Series also has lower-than-usual power requirements and delights with strong data protection and compression features…Coach iPhone 4 Case |Coach iPhone 4S Case |Hello Kitty iPhone 4S Covers|Hello Kitty iPhone 4 Covers
Power requirements of the 520 Series are modest at just 5.25 volts while operating and 600 mill watts when idle, making the unit a convenient upgrade for MacBook Pro owners. In MacWorld’s review, the 520 Series scored 280/280MBps in sequential read/write tests on a SATA 2.0 3Gbps interface. This is Intel’s fastest enterprise-class SSD yet, and it is the first to feature the SandForce SFI-2281 NAND flash controller that is notably faster compared to the last-gen controller. Security features on the 520 Series include 256-bit AES encryption technology that keeps your data safe in the event of theft or loss of your computer.
Intel also included so-called “End to End Data Protection” that ensures integrity of stored data from the computer to the SSD and back. As for compression features, Intel is citing a rate of about 60 percent for three out of four common file types, claiming Microsoft documents can be compressed at a compression rate of up to 85 percent.
The 520 Series SSD is available in 60/120/180/240/480GB flavors. There will also be a 1TB version fabbed on a 20nm process, coming “later this year.” The 520 Series comes with a five-year limited warranty versus a three-year warranty for the older 510 Series SSD. An extended warranty is important given how today’s SSDs are still prone to wear, despite special technologies that improve flash memory chips’ reliability and the number of deletions.

IDC says Apple finished 2011 on top of the Smartphone world, here are the numbers
|

Analytics firm IDC just released a report covering the top five smartphone vendors by shipments and market share for Q4 2011. Apple not surprisingly takes the top position. According to IDC’s Worldwide Mobile Phone Tracker, smartphone vendors shipped 157.8 million units in Q4 2011, and 37 million were from Apple—accounting for 23.5-percent market share in the quarter.Louis Vuitton iPhone 4 Cases|Louis Vuitton iPhone 4S Cases
As for competitors, the report showed Samsung was not far behind Apple with 36 million units shipped and 22.8-percent of the market worldwide. However, while taking the top position in the market thanks to the iPhone 4S launch, Apple also set a new shipment volume record for the entire industry during the quarter. The report citied the initial delay bringing the launch closer to the holiday season and the addition of new carriers as reasons for the device’s strong demand. Despite that, Samsung was still able to come out on top for FY 2011, edging Apple out by under a million units…
Samsung finished the year as 2011′s top smartphone vendor by market lead shipping 94 million units in FY 2011, compared to Apple’s 93.2 million. Those numbers gave Samsung 19.1 percent of the market for FY 2011 and Apple 19 percent. Samsung also posted the largest year-over-year increase of 275 percent, compared to Apple’s 128.4-percent.Designer iPad 2 Cases|Louis Vuitton iPad 2 Cases|Chanel iPad 2 Cases|Gucci iPad 2 Cases
While stating that Apple’s iPhone 4S and Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus have received the majority of the attention in the market as “hero devices,” IDC’s Kevin Restivo said, “a growing number of sub-$250″ Android devices have allowed Android vendors to rapidly increase smartphone volumes. In total, smartphone shipments during 2011 were up 61.3 percent to 491.4 million units from just 304.7 million units the year before.

Analyst: Apple could use ‘iTV’ moniker for HDTV, partner with carriers for programming
Apple’s rumored HDTV might be called the iTV, according to anew report from Bloomberg citing Jefferies & Co. analyst Peter Misek. In a note to clients this morning, Misek also claimed Apple might buy licenses for programming through possible partnerships with Verizon and AT&T and could “leverage content into a YouTube-like model” by taking advantage of user created video from iPhone and iPad users. He also noted “Lower margins and higher risks” will most likely keep Apple away from creating original programming. Misek did not comment on a possible timeframe for the product’s launch.Louis Vuitton iPhone 4 Case|Louis Vuitton iPhone 4S Case
Misek’s scenario of Apple partnering with carriers for content follows a report from Reuters today that confirmed Verizon and Coinstar’s Redbox division have partnered with plans to create a video streaming service to rival Netflix and Hulu Plus. Verizon and Redbox plan to offer its first product resulting from the partnership in second half of the year. As for the possibility of Apple calling its HDTV product the “iTV.” Apple will of course have to work out rights to the name from the major United Kingdom TV network of the same name.
Just last week, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster weighed in claiming Apple was talking with a “major TV component supplier” about “various capabilities of their television display components.”He also offered three possible scenarios for how Apple will approach content on its HDTV product suggesting a simple integration of third-party live TV services, to a live TV/web content combination, to an iTunes monthly subscription.
In related news, you might have come across a BestBuy survey recently that aims to gauge interest in an Apple HDTV concept. If you are interested in seeing what BestBuy dreamed up for the survey, a copy sent to us by a reader is available below (Thanks Alan!):Burberry iPad 2 Case|Swarovski Crystal Cases|Swarovski Crystal iPhone 4 Cases|Best iPhone 4S Case

Microsoft promises native Dynamics CRM client for iPad, iPhone in 2012
|

Software giant Microsoft will release in the second quarter a high-profile productivity tool for Android-toting business professionals. Accompanying Microsoft’s CRM Dynamics 2012 platform update is a preview guide that specifically mentions Android support, as noted by ZDnet. The document also includes a screenshot depicting Dynamics CRM mobile client for iPad (as seen on the right). In addition to native clients for Android devices and iPads/iPhones running iOS 5.x, Dynamics CRM will also be available on devices powered by Microsoft’s Windows Phone software.Designer iPhone 4 Case|Designer iPhone 4S Case
As opposed to a web client that comes with significant limitations, the mobile client comes with all the bells and whistles so it should be Godsend for road warriors. Many businesses rely upon Dynamics CRM to manage their interactions with customers, clients, and sales prospects. Dynamics CRM mobile client will be priced at $30 a month per seat versus rival Salesforce’s mobile client which starts at $65 a month per seat.
In the past, Microsoft would not commit to releasing apps for iOS devices frequently, but the company appears to be renewing focus on Apple’s mobile devices (that sold nearly 60 million unitsduring the holiday quarter) with December 2011 release of the official Xbox Live app, a SkyDrive cloud-storage client, a note-taking program, a charming game called Kinectimals and more. That elusive Office for iPad app, however, is still nowhere to be seen— if you disregards this little Office component for iOS. In addition to dedicated apps for iPads and Android tablets, Microsoft said this Dynamics CRM platform update widens browser support:Coach iPhone 4 Case|Coach iPhone 4S Case|Louis Vuitton iPhone 4 Case|Louis Vuitton iPhone 4S Case
In addition to Microsoft Dynamics CRM Mobile, the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Q2 2012 service update provides the ability for end users to access the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Web Client across all modern Internet browsers on various platforms. This includes browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, and Safari running on PC, Apple Macintosh or iPad.

Apple becomes the top smartphone vendor in US as Siri helps iPhone 4S outsell iPhone 4 by 75 percent
|

We saw the Android-iOS duopoly coming last summer. Now, the effects of this incredibly tight chokehold are becoming painfully evident to virtually every handset maker sans Apple and Samsung. According to a fresh NPD surveyfrom this morning, during the fourth quarter of 2011 Android and Apple together accounted for over 90 percent of smartphone sales in the United States. No wonder RIM is sliding fast. The remaining 10 percent is up for grabs.Hermes iPhone 4 Case|Hermes iPhone 4S Case|Chanel iPhone 4 Case|Chanel iPhone 4S Case
Apple, which seized the No. 1 crown from Samsung last quarter, and leapt past Samsung and LG to become the best-selling U.S. handset brand, according to NPD. The iPhone maker grabbed 43 percent of all U.S. smartphone sales, while Android devices accounted for 48 percent of devices. First-time buyers prefer Android (57 percent) to iPhone (34 percent). Smartphones in Q4 represented 68 percent of all cell phones in the U.S., up from 50 percent in the year-ago quarter.
Some perspective: HTC today reported fourth-quarter results and blamed Samsung and Apple for a 26 percent income drop. What’s more, HTC devices are nowhere to be seen on NPD’s list of the top five best-selling devices in the U.S.
Read below for more highlights…
Apple’s iPhone 4S, 4 and 3GS took the first three slots, accounting for 43 percent of the U.S. smartphone market in the holiday quarter, with Samsung’s Galaxy S II and Galaxy S 4G rounding up the list. Apple reported sales of 37 million iPhones in the 14-week period ended Dec. 31, 2011. According to the NPD Group’s Ross Rubin, Siri and other features drove many would-be smartphone buyers to Apple:Gucci iPhone 4 Case|Gucci iPhone 4S Case|Burberry iPhone 4 Case|Burberry iPhone 4S Case
Attracted by a faster processor, improved camera and the Siri speech-driven agent, most iPhone buyers paid a premium for the iPhone 4S, making it the top-selling handset in Q4.
NPD also found out that iPhone 4S outsold the iPhone 4 by 75 percent and iPhone 3GS by five to one. Remember, iPhone 3GS is available free on a two-year AT&T contract. Looking at the profits alone, Apple is absolutely king of the hill with an estimated three-quarters of all profits in the handset business as a whole, which is remarkable given the iPhone’s 8.7 percent share of the global cell phone market.

Chart courtesy of Asymco
UBS analyst Maynard Um said Apple and Samsung will together account for more than half of the smartphone market this year, with industry revenues and sales estimates pegged at $242.8 billion and 1.7 billion units, respectively. It is important to remember that Apple’s original goal was grabbing a modest one percent of the market for all phones.
Needham’s Charlie Wolf noted that so huge was the iPhone 4S launch that it sent sales in Apple’s brick-and mortar stores in “stratosphere.” His chart, included below, illustrated this phenomenon, with those three big spikes representing iPad/iPhone launches and a boost in iPod popularity. You can visualize Apple’s quarterly revenues using this awesome interactive web tool made byFrancesco Schwarz.
